Beliefs

Unity Day School program is firmly based upon the following beliefs:

Children are innately curious and learn by exploring their surroundings.

Each child is a unique individual and, as such, differences must be respected and encouraged. Instruction is individualized and based on each child’s learning capability and interest.

We care about the development of the whole child. In addition to the child’s intellectual growth, we foster emotional, social and physical growth.

Children learn best through real experience and active involvement.

Play is of vital importance in education; it is the natural way of learning for the child. While expressing feelings during play, the child learns to understand and control them. Play represents a method by which children learn to get along and cooperate with others.

There is no such thing as a value-neutral environment. Value-centered education brings out the best in our children.

Purpose

The purpose of the Unity Day School is to provide an atmosphere that lovingly supports family values and encourages self-discovery in a comfortable and responsible environment.

We know how much you love and care for your child and we recognize the importance of special time meant just for parents — a time that allows parents to renew their energies and to pursue other activities that include work, play, or merely a time of relaxation.

These days, grandparents and traditional family support systems are often unavailable. The Unity Day School is designed to offer an acceptable and desirable alternative. We encourage parents to take time for themselves. We know this is important to your wholeness and well being.

Goals

Our primary goal is to help each child develop a positive and caring attitude toward himself or herself and the world of which he or she is a part. We teach appreciation of beauty in all things and to be thankful for all that he or she experiences. It is, after all, one’s experiences in life that makes each of us unique.

We encourage a love for learning. Our emphasis is on each child’s innate desire to explore, discover and seek to understand all that surrounds him or her. We nurture your child’s ability to learn and practice self control, without sacrificing the opportunity to express feelings and ideas freely and constructively.

As we accomplish our goals, parents can feel secure in the knowledge that their child is well cared for in a positive, loving environment.
