In the Flow
Within the span of 14
days, I have traveled to three major cities in the United States:
Miami, Dallas, and Los Angeles. Each region is distinct yet they all
have something in common. In a manner unique to their specific
region, the discernible signs of the changing season are evident.
As the middle of Texas is bereft of saltwater, my
first order of recreation in Miami was a beach visit. I could smell
the difference in the beach air as humidity levels had decreased.
Although the sun shone, the temperature was cooler than in previous
weeks. Most telling however, was the water. Typically the southern
Atlantic Ocean is balmy as bathwater – not this time. By my
standards it was cold!
Los Angeles seems to be retaining its warmth,
clicking in with a lovely 77º when I disembarked from my flight
yesterday. Despite the warm air temperature, evidence of fall is
showing. The foliage of this semi-desert climate is no longer
blooming. The air is drier and static electricity sends that
all-too-familiar "zap" as my daughter, grandbabies and I embrace.
Dallas, which is home, also responds to the
changing season with signs characteristic to its region. The air is
crisp. I see leaves departing trees in record numbers causing
landscapers more work with their (annoyingly) noisy blowers.
(Whatever happened to rakes?) The temperature has dropped pretty
dramatically over the past few days as well bringing the familiar
smell of wood-burning as fireplaces are put into use.
Each, according to its nature, is in the flow of
the universe.
We, too, are a part of this flow. The change in
season presents a wonderful opportunity to scan our surroundings for
what may be released or cleared. Now may be a good time to peek in
the closets or garage or in the kitchen cupboards for items that are
ready to be put into flow. We can respond to the season by
participating with the motion of the universe; all things must
change.
Here at Unity Church of Dallas we are in the
process of evaluating our space. In the coming weeks, those of you
who are local will see changes as we reorganize and rearrange our
spiritual home, thereby allowing us to be in the flow of the
universe.
I invite you to observe your environment, make
changes, and get into the flow!
In love
& service,
Rev. K
